|The market town of Hadleigh is rich in history and full of character. Once a Viking Royal Town, Hadleigh is the reputed burial place of Danish King Guthrum. In the 15th and 16th centuries, it prospered through its cloth trade with timber and plasterwork buildings lining the high street. St. Mary's Church with its tall lead spire, is bordered by a magnificent 15th century Guildhall and red-brick Deanery Tower.|
Today this bustling town centre offers a range of independently run shops and restaurants, a larger supermarket on the outskirts as well as further amenities in the towns nearby of Sudbury only 12 miles to the west, Ipswich 10miles east with hourly buses between the two, and Colchester only 15miles South with mainline train links to Liverpool Street.
Besides the great shopping facilities available, Hadleigh enjoys a wealth of additional services. There are three primary schools as well as a secondary school, Hadleigh Leisure centre with swimming pool and gymnasium. Nearby villages, whilst they may not offer the amenities of a larger town, those seeking the village life will not be disappointed. Bus services to Hadleigh Bus Station and local stores compliment the mix of modern to medieval homes available.
